ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research REMIT Roundtable on the UN Global Digital Compact EventsNewsZeMKI-News19. April 2024 On Thursday, April 25, 2024, a public roundtable on the United Nations Global Digital Compact will take place at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the House of Science in Bremen. The Global Digital Compact is currently being negotiated by the UN member states; a first draft text was published in early April. The roundtable is part of the EU Horizon Europe project “Reignite Multilateralism via Technology”(REMIT), whose Bremen part at ZeMKI is led by Dr. Dennis Redeker (member of the Lab Platform Governance, Media and Technology). The project is concerned with the question of how new technologies can be regulated globally as jointly as possible and in line with European values. The Global Digital Compact offers this opportunity, but the process is also viewed critically. The following experts from academia and policy practice will have their say: Olga Kyryliuk (Internews/South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance), Minda Moreira (Internet Rights and Principles Coalition at the UN Internet Governance Forum) and Marianne Franklin (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). Moderation: Dennis Redeker (ZeMKI, University of Bremen). There will be ample time for questions and discussion. Registration is not required. Admission is free. The event will be held in English (questions can be asked in German). (REMIT is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 101094228.)
