Winfried Pauleit has been a professor at the University of Bremen since 2003. Prior to that, he was a lecturer in the Film Studies Department at Freie Universität Berlin and a research assistant in the Department of Art and Design History at the University of Wuppertal.
Several visiting positions in the U.S. and England led him to serve as a lecturer at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) with DAAD funding in 2010, as a researcher at the University of Chicago with DAAD funding in 1996, and as a visiting lecturer at the London Institute, Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, in 1995.
He received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the Berlin University of the Arts on the topic of “Film Stills: Passages Between Art and Cinema” and was a fellow of the Graduate College for Aesthetic Education at the University of Hamburg from 1994 to 1996. He studied art history, literary studies, and cultural studies at the University of Osnabrück and the Berlin University of the Arts.
