Fellows in chronological order

In 2024, four Visiting Research Fellows worked at ZeMKI:

Prof. Dr. Nicola Righetti (University of Urbino Carlo Bo, Italy)

Prof. Dr. Nicola Righetti is Assistant Professor of Digital Methods at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, Italy. Previously, he was a researcher in the field of computer communication and social sciences at the Institute of Communication of the University of Vienna, Austria, and an associate professor of advanced data analysis and research associate at the Computer Communication Laboratory of the same university. His work focuses mainly on the application of computational and statistical methods in the study of digital communication on relevant political and social phenomena. During his fellowship, Nicola will collaborate with the ZeMKI labs “Digital Communication and Information Diversity”, “Media and Religion” and “Political Communication and Innovative Methods”.

Prof. Dr. Enrique Uribe Jongbloed (Cardiff University, UK)

Prof. Dr. Enrique Uribe Jongbloed has been a professor at the Universidad Externado de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia, since 2018. He currently teaches as an associate researcher at the School of Journalism, Media and Culture at Cardiff University, UK. His research lies at the thematic intersection of media, identity and language. Among other things, he is interested in the representation of historical processes and events in various media products and examines how history is presented in them and how they combine cultural tradition, cultural heritage and history. During his fellowship, Nicola will collaborate with the ZeMKI Labs “Audio-visual Media and Historiography” and “Film, Media Art and Popular Culture”.

Prof. Dr. Lars de Wildt (University Groningen, The Netherlands)

Prof. Dr. Lars de Wildt is Assistant Professor of Media and Cultural Industries at the Center for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Media Studies at the KU Leuven, Belgium. He has conducted research as a visiting scholar at the Universities of Tampere, Finland, Montréal, Canada, and Deakin, Australia. He researches how media cultures change contemporary beliefs, e.g. how online platforms change conspiracy theories in a post-truth age and how video games change religion in a post-secular age. During his fellowship, Lars will collaborate with the ZeMKI Labs “Media and Education” and “Media and Religion” as well as “Media Change and Long-Term Transformation Processes”.

Prof. Dr. Christian Greiffenhagen (Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China)

Prof. Dr. Christian Greiffenhagen is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China. Prior to joining PolyU, Dr. Greiffenhagen was an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at Loughborough University and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. As a sociologist with a background in computer science, he uses innovative methods (particularly video-based ethnography) to understand how new scientific developments and digital technologies are transforming our work, learning and everyday practices. Christian will collaborate with the ZeMKI Labs “Platform Governance, Media, and Technology” and “Datafication and Mediatization” during his fellowship.
