ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research Presentation on Teaching Experience Design Research at the 5th EdTech Research Forum NewsZeMKI-News30. August 2024 In the presentation “Teaching Experience Design (TXD) Research: a case-study of the development of a classroom interaction environment in nursing education” by Imke A.M. Meyer and Prof. Dr. Karsten D. Wolf from the Lab Media & Education, a new focus in user experience research, using the example of the Classroom Interaction Environment CARO, was presented at the 5th EdTech Research Forum at the University of Duisburg-Essen on 29.08.24. Modern research in educa.onal technology development or learning and instrucional design has shifted towards a more holistic Learning Experience (LX) approach (Jahnke et al., 2022), integrating user-centred design (UCD), usability research, user experience design (UXD), software development and learning research. So far, the focus of this approach has been on the learner, mostly ignoring the teacher perspective, although in teacher- or instructor-led online courses, but especially in face-to-face teaching, there is a high technical and cognitive load on teachers to orchestrate teaching-learning arrangements. Surprisingly, there is a lack of research on the design of educational technology from the teachers’ perspective. To address this problem, we propose a complementary Teaching Experience Design (TXD) research framework and demonstrate it in a case study situated in nursing education. The software project is open source (repository on GitHub). Care didactic content can be used free of charge. Further information on the CARO project can be found on the project homepage.
