The paper is included in a session entitled “Transformative Tools, Emerging Challenges: Empirical and Practical Experiences with LLMs for Text Classification and Annotation.” This paper compares the abilities of human coders and LLMs in identifying complex rhetorical structures and attitudes towards climate protests in media discussions. It describes the methodological approach of combining human labeling with automatic classification to detect attitudes towards activism exemplified by disruptive climate protest movements. The preliminary results demonstrate the effectiveness of LLMs in classifying attitudes and offer insights into the potential and limitations of using AI for nuanced content analysis. The 2024 edition of the AoIR will be held in Sheffield, UK, from October 30 to November 2, 2024.More informationPersons Prof. Dr. Cornelius PuschmannLabs Lab Digital Communication and Information Diversity
