The ZeMKI Persons Susanne Becker Former members Lab membershipLab Audio-visual Media and Historiography Vita Susanne Becker was a member of the Lab Audio-visual Media and Historiography at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research at the University of Bremen until 2024. She completed her two-subject Bachelor’s degree in History and Comparative Literature at the Ruhr University Bochum. In her Bachelor’s thesis, she dealt with the political role of knowledge representation in Renaissance cabinets of curiosities using the example of systematization according to Samuel Quiccheberg. In her Master’s degree in Public History, she focused on the representation of history in audiovisual media, which gave her an introduction to game studies. Building on this, she wrote her master’s thesis on representations of colonialism in digital games with history-related content and devoted her analysis in particular to the reproduction of Eurocentric narratives through the setting and gaming mechanics. Her research interest in cultures of remembrance solidified during her work at the Institute for Social Movements in Bochum and during her internship at the LWL Industrial Museum in Dortmund.
