Research Projects naMeko Operationalization of Terms CompletedResearch project Duration: 2016Project lead: Prof. Dr. Andreas BreiterProject management: Prof. Dr. Andreas Breiter (ZeMKI-Lab “Sociotechnical Systems and Critical Data Studies”) Research association/cooperation: Institute for Information Management Bremen (ifib), Technology and Education (ITB) Funding institution: Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) On behalf of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), ifib and the Institute for Technology and Education (ITB) are compiling a synopsis on the IT and media skills of young people at the transition from school to work. Various research projects focus on the promotion of media skills in training, but it is currently not clear what IT and media skills future trainees have and what minimum requirements are placed on them in this context during training. The objectives of the synopsis are (1) to define and clarify the concepts of media and IT skills, as there is currently no uniform understanding of the terms. In fact, the terms are often used synonymously, although they have different meanings. Furthermore, (2) the relevant studies of the past five years on the IT and media skills of pupils at the end of general schooling are analyzed in order to compile the expected and actual IT and media skills of young people. Finally, (3) the identified media and IT skills are considered as key skills of future trainees, with the aim of systematizing and clearly highlighting the expectations and requirements in the context of training. The ifib contributed its experience in the area of media education and media skills development at general education schools to the project, while the ITB was responsible for the area of vocational training Persons Prof. Dr. Andreas Breiter Labs Lab Socio-technical systems and critical data studies
