Research Projects All is Data. The Search for Knowledge in a digitalized World of Data CompletedResearch project Duration: 2020 – 2023Project lead: Prof. Dr. Andreas BreiterAll is data focuses on new requirements for educators (i.e. teachers, media educators, school social workers) with regard to the handling of digital data and data education as part of pedagogical action in schools. Team: Prof. Dr. Andreas Breiter, Adrian Roeske, Philipp Krieter Partners: University of Cologne, Technical University of Kaiserslautern Client: Federal Ministry of Education and Research The transdisciplinary joint project between pedagogy and computer science “All is data?” focuses on the tasks and requirements of pedagogical professionals in dealing with data and their embedding in teaching, learning and educational processes. With an understanding of data education as a social practice, the project looks at the interface of formal and non-formal education from the perspective of critical media education. From a practice-theoretical perspective, it empirically examines how educators deal with digital data and design teaching, learning and educational processes to raise awareness of datafication. For this purpose, interdisciplinary construction and understanding processes of educators in the field of data education as well as their translation into (media) pedagogical action in non-formal school offers are examined. The pedagogical use of data will open up new opportunities for (media) education in schools. We therefore explore pedagogical processes and offerings outside of regular lessons; we also look at design concepts for data education. This raises media pedagogical questions of media knowledge, use, design and criticism as well as technological questions that educators have to face. The project consists of three sub-projects, each of which has its own focus, but shares responsibility for all work packages: ifib focuses on data practices in the everyday life of educators; the Technical University of Kaiserslautern focuses on data education as part of pedagogical practices and the university concentrates on organizational pedagogical perspectives on data education.
