Andrea L. Guzman as ZeMKI Fellow in Bremen

In November 2025, the Center for Media, Communication, and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen will welcome Prof. Dr. Andrea L. Guzman from Northern Illinois University in the USA as a visiting research fellow.
Andrea L. Guzman’s research examines how people conceptualize and interact with Communicative AI and the social and ethical implications of these and related technologies. She was integral in establishing Human-Machine Communication (HMC) as a recognized sub-field of Communication, in fostering a global network of HMC scholars, and advocating for the redesign of communication curricula to include social robots, AI, and HMC.
Her publications include “The SAGE Handbook of Human-Machine Communication,” “Human-Machine Communication: Rethinking Communication, Technology, and Ourselves,” and a forthcoming co-edited book regarding AI voice assistants. While at ZeMKI, she will be studying “AI ecosystems” and the integration of communicative AI into everyday life while also working with Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp, Prof. Dr. Christian Katzenbach and Prof. Dr. Andreas Breiter.
