ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research ZeMKI Labs win the "AI in Education" Hackathon NewsZeMKI-News13. November 2023 The ZeMKI Lab “Socio-Technical Systems and Critical Data Studies” of Prof. Dr. Andreas Breitner, together with the ZeMKI Lab “Media and Education” of Prof. Dr. Karsten D. Wolf and colleagues from the University of Twente (ELAN, Prof. Kim Schildkamp), won the second hackathon on the topic of “AI in Education”. Over the course of two days, 12 teams developed, tested and, in some cases, prototyped concepts. The work is embedded in our joint project IMPACT: Implementation of AI-based feedback and assessment with Trusted Learning Analytics in universities. Our contribution focused on the development of AI-generated automatic feedback for learning/teaching videos to the producers. For this purpose, we used proven criteria for the quality of the videos on the one hand and for the content on the other and used them to train a GPT-4-based model. The initial data were automatically generated transcripts of learning/teaching videos for text analysis and automatic extraction of scenes from the videos. The generated feedback should then flow into a dashboard for teachers and learners and thus not only reduce the effort, but also support the learning process in the sense of timely formative feedback. Our prototype could be implemented and demonstrated live using AI tools that are already available today. Our presentation convinced the jury. You can find more information about the event here.
