ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research"Vermittelte Migrationserinnerungen: Medien, Generation und Familie" - book publication by Rieke BöhlingNewsZeMKI-News25. March 2025Dr. Rieke Böhling’s dissertation deals with the question of how people with a ‘migration background’ remember the migration histories of their families. She examines how these memories are constructed at the intersection of personal stories, family memory and public and collective memories. Another central aspect is the role of media practices as well as mediated discourses and representations in the memory of migration.Rieke Böhling sheds light on these questions using an ethnographically inspired approach and a variety of data, including individual interviews, a memory workshop in a local museum and field research at private and public events. Her book places the construction of family memories in a broader social context. The work was awarded the “Media – Culture – Communication” dissertation prize by the DGPuK Sociology of Media Communication specialist group and Springer VS Verlag. The book is now available under the title “Vermittelte Migrationserinnerungen: Media, Generation and Family” published by Springer VS Verlag.Labs Lab Datafication and Mediatization
