ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research Stephanie Geise holds presentations at Haus der Wissenschaft NewsZeMKI-News2. July 2025 On Saturday, 26.07.2025, ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Stephanie Geise will give a presentation titled „Politik wirkt – aber wie? Wie Bilder und Texte unser politisches Denken und Handeln beeinflussen“ at the Haus der Wissenschaft and will talk about how exactly visual and linguistic messages are processed in political media content and what role they play in shaping political opinion. What is the lecture about? Today, political communication is increasingly taking place via an interplay of different forms of media and expression. Images and texts work together and have a complex effect on the recipient. The lecture „Politik wirkt – aber wie? Wie Bilder und Texte unser politisches Denken und Handeln beeinflussen“ is dedicated to the question of how exactly visual and linguistic messages are processed in political media content and what role they play in shaping political opinion. It becomes clear that images are not only complementary, but also open up independent emotional and cognitive approaches that often have a stronger and more immediate effect than pure textual information. At the same time, texts shape the interpretation and classification of these images and enable reflective debate. Particular attention is also paid to the role of AI-generated images, whose increasing dissemination poses new challenges for the perception and trustworthiness of political media content. Current research findings from communication science and media psychology will be used to show how multimodal content influences our political thinking and what implications this has for political education and media literacy. The lecture is aimed at anyone who wants to understand how media productions shape our political awareness and what opportunities and challenges arise from this. Contribution to the summer holiday program for students Stephanie Geise will also be taking part in the summer holiday program and will be giving a talk for schoolchildren on 24.07.2025, as part of the “Creative doodles” workshop from 2 pm.
