June 2025 The article published in 2024 entitled “Solving the crisis with ‘do-it-yourself heroes’? The media coverage on pioneer communities, Covid-19, and technological solutionism” by Jeanette Asmuss and ZeMKI members Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp, Julie Lüpkes and Anne Schmitz in the journal ‘Communications’ is now also available in print. The article examines the reporting of “maker” and “quantified self” movements during the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany and the UK. The results show that both pioneer communities were mostly portrayed positively: Makers were seen as problem solvers, while Quantified Self supporters contributed valuable insights to the pandemic through their self-measurements. Overall reactions from committed “do-it-yourself heroes” could be identified. To the article Persons Anne SchmitzJulie LüpkesProf. Dr. Andreas Hepp Labs Lab Datafication and Mediatization
