Gamevironments Journals Editors-in-Chief: Prof. Dr. Kerstin Radde-Antweiler, Prof. Dr. Xenia Zeiler Managing Editor: Dr. Dr. Lisa Kienzl Language: English ISSN 2364-382X Video games are undeniably an important factor in cultural and religious socialization today. Research on this influential sector in the field of media is also taking place in academic discourse. As the first academic peer-reviewed online journal of its kind, gamevironments aims to create and promote an academic platform for discussions on the topic of video games. The title of the journal, gamevironments, indicates that, in our understanding, the study of video games is not limited to established media-centered approaches. On the contrary, the “game/play” “environments” must also be considered. This is achieved with actor-centered approaches. In our understanding, “game environments” consist of both the technical environments of video games/games and the cultural environments of video games/games. The journal welcomes contributions of all kinds and approaches related to video games / games and religion, culture and society. Gamevironments is published twice a year in a regular and a special issue. The special issue is designed and realized annually by guest editors. There is a call for papers for both issues, which is widely advertised via the website, social media and interdisciplinary communication channels. No fee is charged for the publication of contributions. In the spirit of open access, all articles published in gamevironments are freely accessible. The online journal is an international cooperation between ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Kerstin Radde-Antweiler (Editor-in-Chief) and Prof. Dr. Xenia Zeiler (Editor-in-Chief), University of Helsinki. ZeMKI member Dr. Dr. Lisa Kienzl acts as Managing Editor. The international board is composed of key scholars from the fields of Cultural Studies, Religious Studies and Media Studies.
