Publication of the PhD thesis of Katharina Heitmann-Werner

The dissertation of former ZeMKI member Katharina Heitmann-Werner has been published by Springer VS under the title ‘Zivilgesellschaft und Stadtöffentlichkeit – Eine akteurszentrierte Analyse der kommunikativen Figuration der Stadt’ (Civil society and the urban public sphere – an actor-centred analysis of the communicative figuration of the city). In this book, Katharina Heitmann-Werner examines the role of civil society collectives, such as associations or social movements, in constituting the urban public sphere. As a result, she has identified seven types of collective civil society actors that differ in their communicative strategies and practices for creating a public sphere and thus shape and contribute to the city in different ways.

Katharina Heitmann-Werner completed her PhD at the University of Bremen under the supervision of Andreas Hepp and Wiebke Loosen. The thesis was examined by Christian Katzenbach and Stefanie Averbeck-Lietz.
