Recently, a new working paper by former ZeMKI member Dr. Henrik Heuer et al. was published with the title “Auditing the Text Understandability of German Public Administration Websites”.
The paper examines the complexity of texts on official websites of German administrative districts. Through an extensive data mining study, in which over 49,900 websites were examined, it is found that most texts are difficult or very difficult to understand. Differences between counties and the correlation between text understandability and factors such as population or area are examined. The text concludes with recommendations for action to continue the research.
