March 2025Bild vom Springer VerlagTo mark the 20th anniversary of the series “Medien – Kultur – Kommunikation”, Springer VS has published the volume “Zukunft der Medien – Medien der Zukunft”. The book brings together contributions from important authors in the series on the question of where the media are heading and how communication and media research should deal with its future. The topics range from past futures of the media to very current developments, for example in relation to communicative AI.About this bookThe “future of media” is often seen as the future of us all: digital media represent future developments like no other technology. Historically, cable projects and satellite television were seen as harbingers of a new age. This was later true of the Internet and online platforms. At present, it is primarily communicative artificial intelligence that is seen as having the potential for further complex social and cultural change. At the same time, communication and media research is interested in the “media of the future”, i.e. investigating changes in media technology, also in connection with changes in media appropriation and media production as well as in the context of social and cultural change. But what exactly is the relationship between the future of the media and the media of the future? The aim of this volume is to shed light on this question from different perspectives of communication and media research. It marks the twentieth anniversary of the series “Medien – Kultur – Kommunikation”.The first chapter of the volume is “open access” and can be downloaded here. The other chapters are available via Springer Link.Contact person:Prof. Dr. Andreas HeppBuilding/room: LINZ4 40.200 Phone: +49 (0) 421 218 67 620 E-mail: andreas.hepp@uni-bremen.dePersons Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp
