ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research New Publication "Mytholudics - Games and Myth" by Dom Ford NewsZeMKI-News22. April 2025 Cover vom De Gruyter VerlagOn April 21, 2025, De Gruyter published ZeMKI member Dr. Dom Ford’s new book Mytholudics – Games and Myth. The publication sets out an approach to understanding games based on theories from myth and folklore, as games create worlds made up of many different elements, but also rules, systems and structures for how we act in them. Here, Ford redefines myth and sets out how this understanding of myth works for the analysis of games. He asks what heroic mythology is constructed in Call of Duty, what the monsters in The Witcher tell us about the game’s model of the world, and how Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice interweaves a conflict between Norse and Pictish mythology with a conflict between competing models of viewing mental illness.
