ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research Miira Hill and Cornelius Puschmann at workshop on AI in scientific research NewsZeMKI-News12. March 2025 Miira Hill and Cornelius Puschmann from the DCID-Lab will give a talk at the workshop “Large Language Models for the History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Science” at TU Berlin. The event from April 2 to 4, 2025 is open to the public and free of charge. The event is dedicated to the question of how Large Language Models (LLMs) can support scientific research. The focus will be on specific use cases as well as methodological and theoretical challenges. Among other things, it will be discussed to what extent LLMs can help to better analyze scientific debates, decipher technical jargon and open up new perspectives on existing research questions. At the same time, the limits and risks of the technology will be critically examined. In their presentation “Bridging the Gap between Qualitative and Computational Methods: A Mixed-Methods Approach for Analysing Data”, Miira Hill and Cornelius Puschmann presented a new approach to data analysis. Their concept “Data Interview” combines classical qualitative content analysis with the computer-aided possibilities of large language models (LLMs) and retrieval augmented generation (RAG). The English-language event is open to the public and will take place both online and on site. Registration at the TU Berlin is required in advance.
