On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the ZeMKI, Center for Media, Communication and Information Research at the University of Bremen, together with Radio Bremen/Bremen Zwei and the Bremer Presse-Club, hosted the ZeMKI Media Talks from 6:30 p.m. on the topic “Journalism on Social Media: Disappointment, fatigue or great opportunities?” at Club 27 in the historic Schnoor district in Bremen’s city center.

Our guest was Hubertus Koch, journalist, filmmaker and author, known for various documentaries and winner of the German Television Award. As a founding member, he helped set up the Bremen reporters’ association Y-Kollektiv and won the Web Video Award with it. He won the Grimme Online Award for his format “Einigkeit & Rap & Freiheit”. He has been working freelance since 2019 and publishes videos on YouTube and his other social media channels at irregular intervals on the topics of addiction and mental health. His book “Lost Boy: Addicted to Life” has just been published by Ullstein.

Together with presenter Lisa-Maria Röhling and ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Christian Schwarzenegger, we also spoke to Hubertus Koch about the question of whether and how the social network is still suitable as a source of information.
