Research Projects Digital extracurricular learning and educational Practices of young People CompletedResearch project Duration: 2018 – 2021Project lead: Prof. Dr. Karsten D. Wolf, Prof. Dr. Christian PentzoldProject management: Prof. Dr. Karsten Wolf (ZeMKI, University of Bremen), Prof. Dr. Chrisitan Pentzold ZeMKI, University of Bremen) Participating institutions: ZeMKI, University of Bremen, RWTH Aachen University Funding: Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) In four sub-projects, the joint project investigates digital extracurricular learning and education-related action practices of young people in an interdisciplinary and triangulative manner, both in relation to school-curricular subjects and personal career orientation as well as the acquisition of interest-based knowledge and skills/learning projects in leisure time. The composition of the project network with members from general didactics, media education, communication and media studies and subject didactics enables a comprehensive look at explanatory videos and tutorials, as they can be found on YouTube in particular and are used by young people on a large scale and almost every day. In addition, content- and learning-specific media and communication repertoires are examined in order to describe and analyse the diversity of young people’s individual and collaborative practices in extracurricular learning (self-expertization). The sub-project led by Prof. Dr. Karsten D. Wolf is responsible for the media analysis of extracurricular educational interests, the quantitative reconstruction of the media environment and the qualitative interviews to reconstruct the communication and media repertoires. The sub-project led by Prof. Dr. Christian Pentzold is responsible for the reconstruction of collaborative informal appropriation of learning content. Persons Prof. Dr. Karsten D.
