Events Prof. Dr. Enrique Uribe-Jongbloed (University of Cardiff, UK): "Research challenges and innovation in audiovisual archives: case studies from Colombia and Wales" Research Colloquium Datum: 20. November 2024Time: 15:15Street: Linzer Straße 4Location: ZeMKIRoom: 60.070Audiovisual archives face various challenges. Their development has been affected by technological transformation, decision-making regarding what and how to keep it, and the costs for infrastructure and research to maintain and make the archive accessible. Two case studies offer methodological innovations to address archival challenges. The Colombian case revolves around the lack of a television archive and the national broadcasting streamer interest in offering access to old audiovisual products. The second case study is Dragon, a Welsh postproduction company specialised in restoring and digitising classical films. Their challenge revolves around improving the restoration workflow to prevent extreme back-and-forth movement of physical or digital material between stakeholders. Main takeaways of the cases are the innovative outside-the-box approaches to deal with archive material.
