Events Media Education for All - Digitization. Participation. Diversity. Conferences Datum: 16. November 2018 – 18. November 2018Location: Universität BremenThe 35th Forum Kommunikationskultur 2018 of the Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur (GMK) is taking place in cooperation with the ZeMKI at the University of Bremen. Navigating through cities, researching information, making appointments, maintaining friendships, playing in teams, looking for partnerships, documenting everyday life and significant moments – all this is hardly imaginable without digital media. We learn with digital media, organize our work, plan and spend our free time digitally. Today, diverse educational opportunities and social participation are always linked to digital communication and digital media experiences. However, not everyone has equal access to digital media and media education in the digital world. In order to enable children, young people and adults of all ages and with different backgrounds to participate creatively and critically, politics, culture and education are currently under particular pressure. Inclusive media education aims to reach all people and encourage joint media action. The conference of the Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur e.V. (GMK) will focus on how this can be implemented in practice, what scientific findings are available and how this process can be promoted and shaped in the long term. With impulses and workshops from science and practice, the GMK Forum 2018 offers answers to the following questions: How can media education support and accompany the social process of inclusion? How can media work promote digital cultural and political participation? How can people from diverse backgrounds be successfully reached with media education? What do schools and child and youth work need to do to complement each other in order to enable (digital) participation for all pupils? How should media projects be designed to promote the exchange and cooperation of children and young people with different backgrounds? With contributions from: Raul Krauthausen, Berlin; Prof. Dr. Ingo Bosse, University of Dortmund; Ninia LaGrande, Hanover; Dr. Ricarda Drüeke, University of Salzburg; Ass. Prof. Dr. Christopher Power, University of York, UK. With workshops on topics including schools, nurseries, community media, political education and topics such as decoding algorithms, expressing diversity and recognizing fake news. The inclusivity of the conference is important to the organizers and cooperation partners. Appropriate support services will be set up for participants if required (funded by the bpb).
