Events Exploring Medial Change Conferences Datum: 24. October 2013 – 25. October 2013Street: Linzer Straße 4Location: Zentrum für Medien-, Kommunikations- und Informationsforschung (ZeMKI)Internal event Media and communication change is currently the subject of various major research networks. The research group “Political Communication in the Online World” is investigating how politics and political communication are changing with the progressive establishment of the internet. The NCCR Democracy focuses, among other things, on the medialization of politics and society. The Research Training Groups “Trust and Communication in a Digitalized World” and “Locating Media” deal with digital media communication on the one hand with regard to the change in trust building and on the other hand with regard to the constitution of place and situation. The priority programme “Mediatized Worlds” researches the change in living and social worlds with mediatization and the creative unit “Communicative Figurations” the transforming communicative construction of mediatized societies and cultures. Working in such networks opens up extensive opportunities: joint research in them allows us to grasp “change” beyond individual phenomena and to arrive at overarching statements. This makes it possible to focus on ambitious concepts such as “evolution”, “genesis” and “change” and to empirically test their suitability for capturing the observed processes. This opens up completely new possibilities for the empirical study of changing media and communication and creates a variety of new interdisciplinary interfaces. However, this is accompanied by the challenge of developing much more integrative approaches to the conceptualization and operationalization of media and communication change that can be connected to other academic disciplines beyond communication and media studies. The aim of the internal workshop is to discuss these challenges between the various existing research networks in German-speaking countries. For this purpose, the underlying concept of media and communication change will be presented for each research network and its empirical investigation will be described conceptually and in its concrete implementation. The workshop will take place at the Gästehaus Teerhof (Auf dem Teerhof 58, 28199 Bremen). The workshop is an internal event. Further information can be obtained from Sebastian Kubitschko.
