The Center for Media, Communication, and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen is featured in the anthology “Creating Communication and Media Research Labs: A Blueprint for Success” (published by Springer Nature / Palgrave Macmillan). In it, ZeMKI members Dr. Leif Kramp, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp, and Prof. Dr. Kerstin Radde-Antweiler shed light on the origins, structure, and working methods of ZeMKI as an exemplary institution for interdisciplinary research in communication and media studies.

The article presents ZeMKI as a model for the successful development and organization of research labs. It discusses key aspects of institutional collaboration, lab structure, and the connection between research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. The aim is to give other research institutions ideas on how to build and establish innovative and collaborative scientific structures in the long term.

With this publication, which appeared on November 1, 2025, at Springer Nature, ZeMKI is positioning itself as an internationally visible research center in the field of media, communication, and information research. The article contributes to bringing Bremen’s experiences into the global scientific exchange and further promoting dialogue on new forms of research organization.
