ZeMKI at Open Campus 2026
ZeMKI is taking part in the University of Bremen’s Open Campus 2026 today. Under the motto ‘Opening up worlds – sharing knowledge’, the university is offering insights into research, study programmes and academic projects on campus.
At Open Campus, ZeMKI will be showcasing itself as the University of Bremen’s central research unit dedicated to studying how media shape changes in communication, culture and society. The focus is on how communication is changing in the context of digital platforms and what consequences this has for all areas of life.
One item on the program is the ZeMKI Media Talks on stage in the Campus Park. There, Gavin Karlmeier, journalist, digital consultant and columnist at Bremen Zwei, and Prof. Dr Christian Schwarzenegger from ZeMKI will discuss “Between Memes and Manipulation”. The discussion will be moderated by Katharina Guleikoff from Bremen Zwei radio.
The discussion combines journalistic experience with academic analysis. It will focus on memes, platform logic, manipulation and the question of how digital public spheres emerge today. In this way, ZeMKI is contributing to Open Campus with a discussion on current debates about media, democracy and social communication.
