Panel discussion: Does politics belong in video games?
3. March 2026
ZeMKI member Kerstin Radde-Antweiler will participate in a panel discussion on the topic “Does Politics Belong in Video Games? Games have long since become more than just a pastime. They tell stories, build worlds – and in doing so, sometimes convey values.” on the ARD MixTalk program on March 4th at 8:30 pm.
This debate is not entirely new. Many games have always addressed political themes, consciously or unconsciously. Strategy games like Civilization revolve around diplomacy, alliances, wars, and power. Co-op shooters emphasize teamwork and communication. Role-playing games allow us to make decisions that have consequences. Democracy, compromise, and responsibility are often embedded in the gameplay – even if it isn’t explicitly labeled as such.
