On Monday, November 17, 2025, together with Radio Bremen/Bremen Zwei and the Bremen Press Club, we invite you to the ZeMKI Media Talks on the topic of “How religious influencers and the tech elite are attacking democracy” at Club 27, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Religious influencers and tech elites shape public discourse—often with significant consequences for democratic processes. How do religion, ideology, and technology merge to form new centers of power that shape opinions and reinforce political polarization?Journalist, podcaster, and author Annika Brockschmidt discusses this topic.
In books such as “Amerikas Gotteskrieger” (America’s Holy Warriors) and “Die Brandstifter” (The Arsonists), as well as numerous journalistic articles, she shows how religious movements and right-wing networks challenge democratic institutions.
In conversation with Prof. Dr. Christian Katzenbach from ZeMKI, University of Bremen, who researches platform governance, media, and technology, the interfaces between digital platforms, religious activism, and political power will be examined. The event will be moderated by Lisa-Maria Röhling (Radio Bremen & Bremer Presse-Club). A cooperation between ZeMKI, Bremen Zwei and the Bremen Presse-Club.
