Christian Schwarzenegger to speak on the Young Stage at the GROWMORROW Future Festival

ZemKI-Member Christian Schwarzenegger will speak on the Young Stage at the GROWMORROW Future Festival in Oldenburg on August 27 on the topic “Digital Confidence: Media Literacy as the Superpower of the Future.” Drawing inspiration from the series “The Boys”—about superheroes who abuse their power—he turns the promise of superpowers on its head through media literacy: It is not the users who possess superpowers, but rather the platform corporations and their creations. There are seven “negative superpowers” of the platform economy being analyzed, including addictive design, the thrill of speed, invisible surveillance, algorithmic black boxes, and radicalization. Media literacy becomes the kryptonite that enables us to negotiate the digital future and stand up to this overwhelming power.
